Thank you for your support!
Keith and Lisa Coggin, originally from Mobile, Alabama, have been involved in overseas missions for almost 3 decades, including short term trips to Central America, Ukraine and Africa.  In 2002 they began a full time mission to Uganda following God’s call on their lives.  For the first 4 years their focus was on running an Orphanage in Jinja alongside other missionaries.

Through hard work they were able to bring the orphanage out of bankruptcy and provide for its legal registration in Uganda.   While serving as Directors and trying to prepare their youth for life outside the orphanage, they became aware of deficiencies in the educational system.  Many children, even in the upper levels could not read and the emphasis on “rote learning” did not prepare them to think on their own or apply reasoning to everyday issues. This started them working on a curriculum which could resolve these issues.

With the orphanage on solid footing, Keith and Lisa handed the operation over to other missionaries and moved to Northern Uganda. Recent insurgency had prevented missionaries from working in this area and when it ended in 2007, Keith and Lisa were drawn to work in this region.  The local population’s greatest need was for a proper education for the children.

With the lessons learned in JInja, the first order of business was to open a school and Grace Christian Primary School became a reality. For the next 10 years, working within the structure of the Ugandan Government, a Biblical, Christ centered curriculum was created; teaching critical thinking, comprehension skills and long term problem solving skills.  This “Roots to Fruits Christian” curriculum provides students the ability to master the tools of knowledge based learning and gives them a realistic world view.  This advancement in education has produced graduates who exhibit a higher degree of critical thinking skills, problem solving ability and understanding than other schools in the region.

As word of the R2F process spread, other schools began requesting it. For the past 4 years the same curriculum has been used in other schools with the same results.  Local regional governments of Uganda have declared the curriculum meets their legal requirements and are allowing its use.   Currently the R2F curriculum is in 20 schools and over 25 more are requesting it.

There are also requests for R2F from schools in Liberia, Zambia, Rwanda and South Sudan. The problem this presented due to cross border issues has led to Keith and Lisa’s move back to the United States. In order to avoid these issues and further develop the R2F process for use in other nations, the curriculum will be printed in the United States.  It would then be provided to mission organizations affiliated with these requesting nations. The materials and training personnel would be brought into these countries by short term mission members who would set up the program and train leaders.

Keith has the gift of discipleship and in all facets of his life he demonstrates the love of Jesus to others and exhibits a life dedicated to the Lord.  He also teaches Bible at every opportunity.

Lisa is a teacher and has used her educational skills fruitfully in the R2F curriculum development.  Her vision has prompted the expansion of this program and her accomplishments have been recognized by the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) in Uganda where she is a member of the Board of Directors.

Keith and Lisa have been married for 39 years, have 4 children and 3 grandchildren.
